Meanwhile Sterling K. Brown made history by becoming the first black actor to win in the TV drama lead actor category for his role in This Is Us, speaking of his “tremendous sense of pride” in a heartfelt acceptance speech. And Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird picked up the gong for best motion picture for comedy or drama, despite the director herself missing out on a nomination thanks to the notably "all-male" nominee list – something which didn’t pass the award's presenter Natalie Portman by (the actress’s dig at the list immediately went viral on Twitter).
