When Gucci sent a lookalike of one of Dapper Dan's designs down its Cruise 2018 runway, the internet cried foul. But after including him in an ad campaign, flying him to Italy to see Gucci's headquarters and on Thursday, unveiling a brand-new Dapper Dan atelier that will use Gucci raw materials, the relationship between Dapper Dan and Gucci couldn't be better.

While announcements of the new atelier were made earlier this year, it's only now that fans and prospective customers are getting a glimpse of what the new space looks like. Set to open in January 2018, the atelier will use "Gucci raw materials, fabrics, prints, embroidered patches and hardware" to make "bespoke Dapper Dan of Harlem garments," according to a press release from Gucci. Dapper Dan's original Harlem atelier closed in the early '90s.

Occupying 4,700 square feet with room for a storefront, parlor and on-site production area, the new atelier occupies a historic brownstone that used to house a private school for girls. Interior decor includes vintage furniture and archival photographs from Dapper Dan's heyday.

"Everyone paid homage to Dapper Dan, but no one ever paid him," Dapper Dan said in the release. "The people have spoken and Gucci has listened. Nothing has been more significant in the Harlem cultural scene than Alessandro and Gucci coming to Harlem and partnering with Dapper Dan."

In addition to the opening of Dapper Dan's atelier, Gucci's Fall 2018 collection will feature a Gucci x Dapper Dan capsule.
